The apostle Paul in his epistle to
the Romans expressed his zeal to preach the gospel of Christ without shame.
Though he had not been to the church in Rome, Paul wrote this letter to teach
them that the righteousness of God is revealed in the gospel of Christ. The
Gospel of Christ, however, is the sum total of the teachings and life of Jesus
Christ. It was in those days a great challenge for a Jew to proclaim the gospel
because the Jews had rejected Him (Christ) and even called Him a devil. Not
only that but He was delivered into the hands of gentiles (that is, the Romans)
to be killed.
Certainly, it was not easy to preach the gospel of Christ freely.
But Paul realized that the gospel of Christ was the power of God. I am going
share with you fourteen (14) things the gospel of Christ (the power of God) is
able to do. The gospel of Christ is the power of God to: - Give salvation “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.” (Rom. 1:16)
- Set free “Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can You say, ‘You will be made free’?” Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” (Jn. 8:31-36)
- Generate faith “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Rom. 10:17)
- Nourish spiritual life “as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby” (1 Pet. 2:2)
- Produce new birth “having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever” (1 Pet. 1:23)
- Cleanse the Church “that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word” (Eph. 5:26)
- Make partakers of Christ “that the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, of the same body, and partakers of His promise in Christ through the gospel” (Eph. 3:6)
- Search the life “For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.” (Heb. 4:2)
- Give protection “And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” (Eph. 6:17)
- Give fullness of blessings “But I know that when I come to you, I shall come in the fullness of the blessing of the gospel of Christ.” (Rom. 15:29)
- Impart grace “But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.” (Acts 20:24)
- Impart immortality “but has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel” (2 Tim. 1:10)
- Establish in the faith “Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery kept secret since the world began” (Rom. 16:25)
- Bring peace “And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!” (Rom. 10:15)
Finally brethren, believe in the
gospel of Christ, preach and teach it in the best way possible so that our
Heavenly Father will be most glorified in us.
