THE FALL OF CAIN
Part 2: TILLER OF THE GROUND
Lesson 3 – FRIEND OF THE WORLD
In the lesson 1 we looked at the ground as the mind and in
the lesson 2 we looked at it as the flesh. Here in the lesson 3 we are going to
look at the ground as the World.
Scripture
Reading:
“Then she
bore again, this time his brother Abel. Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.” (Gen.
4:2)
The world here represents the systems of the world; which include
priorities, mindsets and philosophies as well unchristian characteristics. When
we speak of the world, we are talking about the things which are contrary to
the will and way of God. When we begin to walk in the paths which are differing
to the will and way of God, we become partners in crime with villain Lucifer –
a friend of the world.
Let us see James 4:4 “…Do
you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever
therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.”
The actions of the obstinate son of Adam were very
unchristian; to kill his own brother and disrespect God. A person who can do
such a thing is one who is very far gone. Cain had made himself a friend of the
world by taking things into his own hands. He was overcome by envy and strife. Tiller
of the ground as in our present lesson on the Fall of Cain represent the
individual who has fallen in love with everything ungodly, either
through delusion or by deliberate intension.
Every child of God has 3 major enemies which include;
- The Devil – “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.” (1 Peter 5:8, 9) To overcome the devil we have got to resist him just as the scriptures through Peter reveals.
- Flesh – “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.” (Gal 5:16) This text tells us how to overcome the flesh. To overcome the flesh, walk in the spirit.
- World – “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” (Rom. 12:2) To overcome the world, the holy Word admonishes us to be transformed by the renewing of your minds.
Being a friend of the world means jumping into bed with these
three (3) major enemies of a believer in Christ. Very often this trinity of
Satan comes through philosophies, mindsets, ideas, politics, traditions and
unchristian acts but with the craftiness of a serpent.
