THE MANTLE OF PURITY

A mantle is a piece of cloak worn to symbolize authority. It is normally not the main dress, but a piece of cloth worn on the actual dress. Very often we only attribute a mantle to its way of projecting authority, but in this article I am going to reveal the ability of a mantle to symbolize purity. Authority is very important but purity is much a dangerous arsenal to wag a good warfare. With purity as a mantle the enemy is silenced once for all from accusing and pointing his finger of contempt at you.

With purity as a mantle upon your shoulder the vilest devil will fear to come close to you. Purity, however, is a state of being undiluted and unmixed with sin or any shadow of evil and even to the extent of lacking the knowledge of evil. What a glorious life it is to dwell in purity? – The state our Lord and God urge us to live in. I, with all convictions believe that every creature in heaven is pure because there is not the slightest needle-dot of sin or any form of evil. God expects us to live in purity with a pure heart, that is, purity inside out.
It happened in the house of David that all her virgin daughters wore a robe or mantle of purity. The mantle was a holy demarcation, and an honour due the princesses of the time to be treated kindly with acute honour. Any princess without her mantle of purity means she has been defiled, and therefore exposed to ignominy, derision and disgust.
Tamar, the daughter of David, the sister of Absalom was a virgin – she was pure in the sight of God and man. She was undefiled until Amnon, her half-brother raped her. After raping he commanded his servant to throw her out. “So the servant put her out and locked the door behind her. She was wearing a long, beautiful robe, as was the custom in those days for the king's virgin daughters. But now Tamar tore her robe and put ashes on her head. And then, with her face in her hands, she went away crying.” (2 Sam. 13:18-19) This action of Amnon is a first class satanic inspiration. He defiled Tamer who was in her adolescence which obviously made Absalom a strategic serial killer. Tamer tore her beautiful mantle (or robe) and mourned for herself, because Amnon’s action created the impression that she rather seduced him.
Sometimes you want to wonder why some folks are very industrious in orchestrating evil deeds. Amnon did evilly, but the princess also had a responsibility of protecting her virginity (or purity). For the Scripture says “Let your garments be always white. Let not oil be lacking on your head.” (Eccl. 9:8) The Scripture commands that we should let our garments always be white, signifying purity. This is a duty of everyone with the mantle of purity. I do not think any wise person with clean white clothes would dare go to the farm to harvest cassava. Becoming purified is one thing but remaining pure is most to be desired.
One should be able to discern where to go and where not, what to do and what not to. The princess like most of us was careless in her ability to perceive and retreat from all necessary evils. Apostle Paul commands saying unto us that we should “Abstain from all appearance of evil.” (1 Thess. 5:22)
The moment we come into Christ we are given a mantle of purity to wear, but it is our responsibility to keep it clean (and white).
We are justified by faith in Christ Jesus, such that there is no form of sin attributed to us anymore but we must likewise be justified by works (not by law) in order to inherit the kingdom of heaven. Most people do believe that as far we are justified by faith we need do nothing but wait for rapture. But if it were so Jesus would not say “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.” (Matt. 7:21) Saying “justification by works” I mean the “doing the will of the Father” which is evidently after one is born-again. Dear friend, do your possible best with the help Christ to remain pure, for the days where the elect are being deceived is near.
