Last year, around May, I was an officiating
minister of an engagement with two other ordained ministers. Such a glorious
occasion that was. Everyone was glad. The part that fascinated me so much was
after the exchange of the rings. The man of God stood between the bride and
groom and said, “I’m the only one standing in between these couple for which
reason they cannot marry.” Then he move backward, joined the hands of the
couple and pulled them together, and said’ “From now, I, being middle wall of
separation have forever stepped aside, and by the power vested in me…I
pronounce you husband and wife”.

THE MAN WHO CARRIED JESUS’ CROSS
Oh, what a day that would never be
forgotten in the history of both mortals and immortals; the day when an
immortal-mortal was annihilated by treacherous mortals. This event has however
made a peculiarly indelible impression upon history – the day Jesus Christ
died. He was beaten mercilessly, mocked bitterly, insulted obscenely and spat
upon awfully. All eyes were on Him with every mouth speaking about Him. The
headline of the day, “Crucify Him”. He was the most wearied of men, yet He was
made to carry an unbearable piece of timber unto the hill of his execution.

THE SOUR WINE AND THE CURSE OF MANKIND
Obliterating the curses upon
humanity was an important facet of the redemptive work of Jesus Christ. Jesus
came unto the earth realm to save mankind from condemnation. Man had been condemned
by earning curses from the Almighty God. These curses are the embargo God
placed upon the entire human race because of sin.
(Sin is the violation of God.
What do I mean? When an individual sin, he or she has not just sinned but
sinned against God. For example if a girl of five is raped she has been
violated not necessarily the violation of the constitutional laws. What is the
essence of the constitution without the people?

JESUS – HIS KILLERS WERE ENVIOUS OF HIM
Complete
humility was the nature of this young Rabbi from Nazareth. His name was Jesus –
Jesus who claimed to be Christ, the Messiah which the Jews had been expecting.
Yes, the long awaited Saviour. The same came unto His people but was rejected
by them. Not only did they reject Him, they slaughtered Him like a year old
lamb. Approaching His death was not to Him a fear at all, for He knew He was
born to die for mankind. The prophets of the Scripture had prophesied and
spoken of His fate long before the conception of His earthly parents. He
definitely knew why He was born – to deliver His own people from the tyrant who
torments them, Sin. But His own people rose up against Him. They killed Him
because of their pride and envy.

3 POSSIBLE REASONS WHY THE JEWISH LEADERS INSISTED ON KILLING JESUS
And those who had seized Jesus led Him away
to Caiaphas, the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were gathered
together…Now the chief priests and the whole Council kept trying to obtain
false testimony against Jesus, in order that they might put Him to death; and
they did not find any, even though many false witnesses came forward…And while
He was being accused by the chief priests and elders, He made no answer.” (Matthew
26:57, 59-60; 27:12)

CHRIST IN THE COURT ROOM (Why they crucified Him)
Jesus Christ, a man who is indubitably the greatest person throughout the whole of history even until now, died an ignominious death – by crucifixion as a criminal. Was he a criminal? Certainly not! But He died the death of criminals. He was murdered “Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know: Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain” (Acts 2:22-23) Nonetheless thousands of people have died for Him and still thousands more would dare to lose their lives for His course. Assuredly He was not a mere man. These are however the very possible indictments which triggered His crucifixion.
