BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE

“I will not take this any longer. I can’t bear with all this again and again. I do a lot of good to people even if it will cost but no one seems to care about me. All my good just goes down the drain. I have resolved not to do any good deed again. Enough is enough!” she said with tears running down her chin.

This is exactly what she said as she cried. This young lady like most of us have open-heartedly demonstrated some good deeds and got no good in return. It seems the more we give to people the more we rather suffer. Or we sacrifice for people effortlessly but when it is our turn to enjoy others helping us we do not get the favour returned. Often times we think they have forgotten. Yes, they have forgotten but at the appropriate time the Lord will remind them to cross check from their book of remembrance.

As I calmed this young lady, I opened my Bible to the book of Esther and told her about Mordecai. Mordecai was Esther’s uncle who sat at the gate of the king. The children of Israel were not really having their peace of mind yet this Jewish man had peace in his soul. He had no evil intention against anyone, even those who ruled over him unjustly. As he sat there he heard two people conspiring to assassinate the king. Regardless his livelihood and the economy he exposed those who planned to kill the king.

In those days, while Mordecai sat within the king's gate, two of the king's eunuchs, Bigthan and Teresh, doorkeepers, became furious and sought to lay hands on King Ahasuerus. So the matter became known to Mordecai, who told Queen Esther, and Esther informed the king in Mordecai's name. And when an inquiry was made into the matter, it was confirmed, and both were hanged on a gallows; and it was written in the book of the chronicles in the presence of the king. (Esther 2:21-23, NKJV)

After the king’s life was saved, there were a chain of events which consequentially put the Jews in great danger. Within the heat of these events the Lord reminded the King to visit his book of remembrance and honour someone who deserves honour. Read the text below slowly.

On that night the king could not sleep. And he gave orders to bring the book of memorable deeds, the chronicles, and they were read before the king. And it was found written how Mordecai had told about Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king's eunuchs, who guarded the threshold, and who had sought to lay hands on King Ahasuerus. And the king said, "What honor or distinction has been bestowed on Mordecai for this?" The king's young men who attended him said, "Nothing has been done for him."…"What should be done to the man whom the king delights to honor…And Haman said to the king, "For the man whom the king delights to honor, let royal robes be brought, which the king has worn, and the horse that the king has ridden, and on whose head a royal crown is set. And let the robes and the horse be handed over to one of the king's most noble officials. Let them dress the man whom the king delights to honor, and let them lead him on the horse through the square of the city, proclaiming before him: 'Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delights to honor.'" Then the king said to Haman, "Hurry; take the robes and the horse, as you have said, and do so to Mordecai the Jew who sits at the king's gate. Leave out nothing that you have mentioned." So Haman took the robes and the horse, and he dressed Mordecai and led him through the square of the city, proclaiming before him, "Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delights to honor." (Esther 6:1-3, 6-11, ESV)

I urged this young lady to press on doing good without losing heart. "At the right time God Himself will cause men to remember you." I said. Her face started beaming with light and love after hearing these inspired words. 

I pray this finds a place in your heart to keep doing your good deeds regardless the favour you may or may not get.
