10 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT JEHOVAH GOD

God is the I AM THAT I AM. He is Jehovah. I AM THAT I AM is the same as the four teteragrammation name JHVH or YHWH pronounced Jehovah or Yahweh. This name was so sacred to the later Jews such that it was pronounced by the High priest alone on the great Day of Atonement when he entered into the most holy place. His is the same God of the Bible (i.e. the God of Christians). I want to reveal to you ten things you ought to know about Jehovah God – the One and True God.

  1. God has not been seen before neither will anyone ever see Him (I Tim. 6:16)
  2. He is the God of all gods and the Lord of all lords (Deut. 10:17; Psa. 136:2, 3; Dan. 2:47)
  3. He is the Father of all spirits (Heb. 12:9)

MARRIAGE – A MUST OR A NECESSITY

I am without doubts that marriage is one of the most deliberated issues among the many relevant life issues. Very often the question is asked, “Is marriage obligatory or optional?” or “Is it the will of God for me to marry?” or “Am I incomplete without marriage?” and etc. etc. questions. As a personal devotion to enlighten the world on this very essential subject I will biblically teach you whether marriage is a must or not. I trust God to bless you even as you spend quality time reading.
To begin with, in the beginning God created male and female (Gen. 1:27). He did not create husband and wife. The original intent of God was to make man in His own image and likeness to take responsibility for all the earth (Gen. 1:28-30). So God created man according to His original intent, male and female He did create them (Gen. 1:27). Both male and female are in the image of God, and are to take responsibility for their independent lives, and most importantly to fulfill the assignment God has given them. This clears the doubt on incompleteness when unmarried.

ORIGIN OF MARRIAGE

The creation of mankind was completed in the chapter one of the book of Genesis. Yet the writer in the chapter two elaborates on creation in entirety, not leaving to confusion what he began previously on the creation of man. In the chapter two we see something which seems contradictory to what was began in the chapter one. For this reason some people have concluded that there were two different creations i.e. chapters one and two. And others have generally out of lack of revelation established that the creation story is a myth. But there is only one creation story as far as the Scriptures is concerned, i.e. Genesis chapter one, of which the chapter two explicates.

IN THE POTTER’S HANDS

One profession which has so much fascinated me is pottery making. Pottery making is a profession and at the same time a hobby. Africa is noted for pottery making because about 90% of all children on the continent grow playing in and with clay. It was not until recently that modernization has taken most African children from clay. I quite remember some very good times I had in and with clay – making cars, superheroes, houses, etc.

HOW TO ENTER INTO THE KINGDOM OF GOD

The gospel according to John has the central theme of bringing believers into a fuller understanding of the life and ministry of Jesus Christ, wherefore it places emphasis on the subject of having a new life as a prerequisite for entering into the kingdom of God in chapter three. This life as presented in this chapter is introduced with Nicodemus, a Jewish teacher of the Law who sought entry into the kingdom of God but contrary to his expectation was the revelation of becoming born-again. Jesus’ answer of becoming born-again was a revelation i.e. a secret knowledge or a mystery, basically a divine truth. It was a knowledge which was hidden from Judaism and still is because they do not believe in Jesus as the Christ, the Messiah.

WORSHIP – MADE FOR MAN

The modern day Christians have a funny definition of worship, limiting it to the period where they sing songs of praise unto the Most High God, the King of kings and Lord of lords. But I know that worship entails much more than that, for I do not believe, rather, I know that my Lord, the God I serve is not a simpleton to have given a code for worship (Jn. 4:23-24) – Worship in Spirit and in Truth.

7 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THE ZAREPHATH WIDOW

“Elijah was as human as we are, and yet when he prayed earnestly that no rain would fall, none fell for three and a half years!” (James 5:17) During this period of three and half years of drought God spoke to Elijah saying, “Go and live in the village of Zarephath, near the city of Sidon. I have instructed a widow there to feed you” (1 Kings 17:9) In the midst of difficulty God commanded His prophet to go into the dwelling of a widow, so that she could feed him. The widow represents believers of our day. God is dealing with us as He dealt with the Zarephath widow.

ANCESTRAL MISFORTUNE – IS IT MINE TOO?

The issue of ancestral misfortune is one of the most mishandled, both in ancient times and present day. As the ancient fathers accepted it to be, so the modern day believers in God accept it. They believed that the punishment or weaknesses of their forefathers will linger till many generations, and thus were in expectation of the particular punishment. Very interestingly the current day people of God believe the same.

For example, “If our forefathers were alcoholics then we are no different”, “It is generational”, we often say, “We are just having our share of the family cake”. Yes these things do happen. I have met people who have problems with marriage because all their forefathers had such problems. And others with barrenness issues, and thus struggle before giving birth to at most one. Some others I have encountered die at around age forty because of diabetes. All these are generational and thus do we believe that it is a form a chastisement upon the family that we cannot be left out.

We do believe that as far as you carry the family blood you are tied to all blessings and shortcoming of the family. And sure it does happen the way we see it. Truly our beliefs become our strongholds. What we believe and trust becomes the very ruler for our souls by the influence of powers which work either righteously or evilly.

WHOM GOD CHOOSES

Rev. Henry Francis Lyte
(1 June 1793 – 20 November 1847)

When God wants to drill a man,
And thrill a man,
And skill a man
When God wants to mold a man
To play the noblest part;

MAN - MADE TO WORSHIP

"The impulse to worship is universal. If there is a race or a tribe anywhere in the world that does not worship it has not been discovered. And yet the act of worship is, for the most part, so imperfect, so impure and so far astray that any teaching that might help God more acceptably would indeed be a word well spoken." - A. W. Tozer
Man living on planet earth is made with the singular purpose of worshiping God. God, the one true God, Creator and Maker of all things performed all His works with the objective that all His works would worship Him.

THE FORCE OF PRAYER AND DRYNESS

The prophet Jonah is noted for running from the call of God and finally caught up in the belly of a great fish. The Bible teaches that God prepared this fish to swallow Jonah. This is an act of love. God insisted on Jonah walking in the perfect will of God. He (God) then had to allow a fish to swallow him (Jonah) to draw his attention not to harm him. Many a time God blindfolds His children just to get their attention but as often as He tries the devil steps in to cause them to harden their hearts.

There is a clear distinction between God drawing our attention and temptation. God never tempts us neither can any man tempt HIM. Temptation is to cause the victim to stumble and backslide but God intentions are pure, to bring you unto an expected end.
