“As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and established in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein in thanksgiving.” (Colossians 2:6-7)
Thanksgiving is a sacrifice we
render towards God for His tender mercies, His kindness and all the blessings
He loads upon us daily. It is our appreciation of His good deeds. It behooves
of Christians to thank God and thereby magnify Him.
It is our thanksgiving that
walks us through the glory of God to touch God in His palm. It brings us in
close proximity with the Father that we may see Him just as He is. Amongst the
billion reasons why we ought to thank God, a few are the gift of life, the gift
of salvation and the gift of the Holy Spirit.
By our thanksgiving we magnify
God. This is not to say that we make God bigger or greater, it is to say we see
how God is truly great. Our thanksgiving doesn’t act as a microscope but as a
telescope. It brings us to the place where we encounter the true glory of God.
The Bible emphasis the importance of thanksgiving in Psalms 69:30-31. It says, “I will praise the name of God with a song,
and will magnify Him with thanksgiving. This also shall please the Lord better
than an ox or bullock that hath horns and hoofs.”
This text reveals
that our thanksgiving matters to God more than our sacrifice of resources. It
means more to Him than money. Our thanksgiving and testimonies of His goodness
magnifies Him in our minds and the minds of others. When we’re constantly
praising God, thanking Him for every single thing, our life, food, shelter,
clothes in the presence of others, they begin to see God in a new light. Our
testimonies can activate the faith of others and inspire us unto greater
strengths. Thanksgiving is key in our lives as Christians as it holds the key
to the increase in the depth of our revelation of God.
In Luke 17:12-19, Jesus healed ten lepers, one of which came back to
thank the Lord. Upon his arrival before our Savior, Jesus asked where the other
lepers were whom he had healed. Jesus didn’t need their thanksgiving to survive
but it meant something to Him. Christ declared wholeness upon the one that came
back with thanksgiving. Our thanksgiving is an expression of our faith which
would release unto us total sanctification unto God. Thanking God is His will
for us (1 Thessalonians 5:18)
