COLLATERAL DAMAGE

Once upon a time in the hall of fame of unknown heroes is a story of heroism not going as expected. A young prince lost both his father and grandfather in the same battle. The father fought bravely besides his father but both died on the same battlefield. The young prince was five years old at the time with his mother probably dead. This is one of the most tragic situations of royalty that a prince becomes a complete orphan overnight.

The young prince’s name is Mephibosheth, son of Jonathan the son of King Saul.

“Jonathan, Saul's son, had a son who was lame in his feet. He was five years old when the news about Saul and Jonathan came from Jezreel; and his nurse took him up and fled. And it happened, as she made haste to flee, that he fell and became lame. His name was Mephibosheth.” (2 Samuel 4:4)

Both King Saul and his son Jonathan died on the battlefield the same day at Jezreel. Mephibosheth was only five years when this happened. The young prince whose father was full of love and mercy was not so fortunate in the hands of his saviour. The nurse who cared for him in her effort to save him mistakenly dropped the precious prince to the ground and lamed him for the rest of his life. Mephibosheth’s tragedy seems to fit perfectly into the very words of Job that “Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble.” (Job 14:1)

This observation of Job is more or less a default situation for every individual in the earth realm. Everyone who looks into the situation of the young innocent prince would quickly judge that the universe has not been fair to him at all.

As human beings we often tend to blame God for all the bad things that happen to us. We all have peculiar challenges and struggles but I believe that looking for the one who caused our woes does not solve anything.

There was brother I knew who was always blaming God for his father’s drinking habit. He believed that he was unfortunate to have had a drunken father and it is all God’s doing. No! It’s not God’s doing that we suffer or go through peril. It is because our world is broken.

It was man who invented alcohol, money, guns, and all these things which have become the source of our predicaments. Our broken world has broken us and we have become creative in diabolic ways;  devising our own ways of forgetting pain and dealing with hunger. Dependability on God has now been substituted with self-satisfying hard work. The hardships we go through are just collateral damages because of the continuous jostling and battles of our broken world. The forces that work against us spiritually are breaking through physicals barriers. All we need to do is to pray like never before. Our God has a book of remembrance and will definitely bring us restoration

.

Now David said, "Is there still anyone who is left of the house of Saul, that I may show him kindness for Jonathan's sake?"…So David said to him, "Do not fear, for I will surely show you kindness for Jonathan your father's sake, and will restore to you all the land of Saul your grandfather; and you shall eat bread at my table continually." (2 Samuel 9:1, 7)

From today, I prophesy into your life that whatever you have lost shall be restored in a hundred fold. If Mephibosheth received his restoration you shall receive your right now, in Jesus name!
