JESUS CALLS HEROD A FOX

“On that very day some Pharisees came, saying to Him, “Get out and depart from here, for Herod wants to kill You.” And He said to them, “Go tell that FOX, ‘Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I shall be perfected’.” (Luke 13: 31 & 32)

In the scripture above, Jesus called King Herod Antipas a fox. The question is “Why?” In John 2:24, the Bible says that Jesus knew all men. This means that He knew what was in the hearts of men (See MIRROR OF LIFE). He knew that the intentions of Herod’s heart were to destroy the work of God – by killing Him. In Songs of Solomon 2:15, the Bible says, “Catch us the foxes, the little foxes that spoil the vines. For our vines have tender grapes.” This scripture reveals that the intent of the foxes is to destroy the vines. Also in John 15:1, Jesus says that He is the true vine and the Father is the Vine dresser.

From all of these scriptures, we can conclude that Herod is a fox for wanting to kill Jesus Christ because He was the Vine which was grown by the God. Herod’s heart intentions made him a FOX. The mischief in his heart was to kill the work of God performed by Jesus.

In this era, a lot of foxes have come out of their holes to cause chaos in the church and in the lives of others. Their sole purpose is to “spoil the vines”. Religiosity has become a fox in the church which is spoiling the work of God. In a particular church, an older woman took it upon herself to embarrass the younger women in her church if they wore trousers. Most of the younger women left the church because of this old woman. This woman had become a fox which was preventing the younger women from participating in church fellowship. Her religiosity had pushed the youth away from God and that could land them in the wicked hands of the enemy (See THE MENACE OF RELIGIOUS INSANITY). This old woman was under law and putting the ladies under obligation of her shame, which we have died to by accepting Jesus Christ in our lives. She was still living under the law. Grace has made us from the law and hence we are under no obligation to satisfy the deeds of the flesh.

Apostle Paul described the people of Ephesus, who stood against the gospel of Christ, as brute beasts. He said in 1 Corinthians 15:32, “…I have fought with beasts at Ephesus…” He was referring to Demetrius and his people who stirred up a commotion concerning Christianity. (see BEASTLY MEN) These people were foxes seeking to destroy the vine.

We Christians in these end times need to be alert of foxes sent by Satan to destroy the work of God in the church and in our lives. Many like Herod have risen and many more shall rise in the power of the enemy to destroy us. We need to have pure hearts totally transparent before God and willing to fight against the works of the enemy.

BONUS: MANY FOXES SHALL RISE IN POSITIONS OF POWER AND INFLUENCE. WE NEED TO BE READY AS INDIVIDUALS AND AS A CHURCH. AS JESUS WAS ABOUT TO GO TO JERUSALEM AND BE CRUCIFIED, HEROD ROSE TO KILL HIM IN ORDER TO PREVENT HIM FROM SAVING HUMANITY. THE FOXES PREVENT US FROM FULFILLING OUR PURPOSES. STAY ALERT!!!
